Outlawing of the Koran, aggressive anti-Islamic advertising campaigns and support for state wide bans on Islam as a religion; these are just some of the methods advocated by a like-minded group of activists intent on eliminating the spread of Islam in the West. Yet at the same time, the so-called “counter-jihad movement” maintain that they are champions of free speech and are not in the least xenophobic. The Freedom Rights Project’s Jacob Mchangama highlights this flagrant hypocrisy in his article for The Daily Beast, where he examines the distortion and selectivity of freedom of expression as advocated by counter-jihad proponents such as Pamela Geller, Robert Spencer and Anders Gravers:
“the counterjihadis have had some success in posing as the true defenders of free speech…Yet one need only scratch the surface to realize how dominant members of the counterjihad movement are more than happy to compromise on free speech as long as the ends justify the means and those denied their rights are Muslim.”
