The Freedom Rights Project is proud to welcome Dr. Rosa Freedman, Senior Lecturer at the University of Birmingham, who will join the founders as a Principal Investigator. Dr. Freedman brings with her significant expertise in international human rights law and intimate knowledge of the workings of the UN Human Rights Council.
Dr. Rosa Freedman holds a PhD from Queen Mary University of London, a specialised LLM (Public International Law) from University College London and an LLB (hons). She is a non-practising barrister and member of Gray’s Inn. Rosa joined Birmingham Law School in 2011, and lectures International Human Rights Law, Land Law, Criminal Law and Research Skills. Rosa has written articles on legal matters for The Guardian’s ‘Comment is Free’ website, Huffington Post, and national media. She provides research and expertise to a number of NGOs. Rosa has researched and written on the United Nations Human Rights Council and is currently extending that research to examine the United Nations Human Rights Machinery and the extent to which those bodies discharge their mandates. She also publishes more broadly on International Law and International Relations. Rosa is the author of Failing to Protect: The UN and Politicisation of Human Rights ( Hurst, 2014) and The United Nations Human Rights Council: A Critique and Early Assessment (Routledge, 2013)
